Commissioner Tim Hill

Commissioner Tim Hill

Tim Hill was elected in May of 2023 to the Port of Astoria Commission.  He was born in 1947 and raised in Pendleton, OR.  Tim worked grade school through college at a family wheat farm until moving to Astoria in 1971 and enrolling at Clatsop Community College in a commercial fishing class.  Upon class completion, Tim went to work on a trawl vessel and two years later became a half-owner of a 65ft. trawl vessel.  After six years of fishing off the coast of Oregon and Washington, Tim formed J&H Boatworks, Inc. in 1976 to begin a 40-year career in boatbuilding.

Tim served on the City of Astoria planning commission for a 4-year term in the late 1980s.

Tim met Debi in 1981 at the Pendleton Round-Up.  They married in 1982 and have two grown children, now 35 and 37, with their first grandchild due in October 2023.  They have lived in their current home in Astoria for 40 years.

The Port of Astoria was, at times, a significant help to Tim’s business over the years.  J&H acquired a sub-lease at Tongue Point from the Port in 2009 until Tim and Debi sold J&H Boatworks in 2016 and retired.   Tim has said, “The reason I ran for a position on the Port Commission is to be of some help to the Port.  I foresee opportunities and good things forthcoming”.
